About the Curated travelist

Before uprooting my life and moving indefinitely to Indonesia, I had actually never set foot in the country๐Ÿ˜ฑ!

Born and raised in South Africa (an equally beautiful country), my love of travel was ever-present.

Formally trained as an Audiologist ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ with a specialization in hearing implant technology, my job has always involved travel, locally and internationally.

Each time in a new location, I’d take take every free minute to explore my new surroundings.

Sadly, as expected, the workloads began to grow to the extent that exploration became impossible and travel became more like a chore and no longer the love and excitement it once inspired.

Seeking new surroundings, I landed a work opportunity in Indonesia, not knowing what I was in for, but the hunger for new adventures outweighed any doubts or fears and risks.

Within a month of living in Jakarta, I visited East Java and was absolutely blown away by the natural beauty ๐Ÿ˜

The natural beauty, the culture, the people and diversity; were something so different from what I was expecting (mass media Bali culture). The Bali Instagram feeds are so different from what the rest of Indonesia is actually about.

I knew from just seeing this tiny fraction of the 17000+ islands that I had to share how much more this stunning archipelago has to offer.

โ€ฆ. and so THE CURATED TRAVELIST was born ๐Ÿ™‚

As cheesy as it sounds, I now find being here more than just a holiday, it’s really about venturing out into the unknown, discovering new places, getting a fresher take on older ones and sharing the awe and wonder with others about what Indonesia truly is about… MORE THAN JUST BALI!

With the blog I aim to encourage other travellers, novice or seasoned, to visit Indonesia and EXPLORE! Whether doing it solo or with their besties and families, by sharing my real stories and honest advice and recommendations.

To say I have a massive sweet tooth ๐ŸŽ‚ is an understatement

Lover of cheap wine ๐Ÿฅ‚

Runner wannabe ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ and obstacle course race enthusiast

I have diverse travel inspirations – one day I want to hike up a volcano ๐ŸŒ‹, the next day I want to be sitting on a beach ๐Ÿ๏ธ enjoying a floating breakfast or visiting an ancient temple ๐Ÿ›•

Where you’ll otherwise find me…

You’ll find me writing in my office or a place with beverages and a view (and probably with crumbs in my hair) scoffing down sweet treats whilst being inspired.

or on the opposite end of the spectrum

training in the humidity of South East Asia for an upcoming Spartan Race or trying to improve my turtle running pace!

I never knew I wanted to trek volcanoes, bask in the refreshing showers of waterfalls or feel the calm of ancient temples till got I got here – it’s so different from the Bali and Bintangs you see online.

I hope I can inspire your travels here too!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you’ll find what you’re looking for!

With Love,

Kaylini ๐Ÿ’›
